THE HAC PASCO RALLY
October 7, 2006 Your voices are being heard!
HAC would like to thank everyone who came out to rally with us Saturday. We were pleased to have had people from Pasco, Hernando, Pinellas, Hillsboro, and even met with a family that traveled all the way from Ft. Meyers to ban together and tell our officials to help us lower our insurance rates or get voted out of office! (read more below photos)
HAC was disappointed that neither Charlie Crist nor Jim Davis cared enough about this crisis to show up. (They were invited several times) We feel that they are relying on their “TV” ads to win this election! The Rally had a great turnout of people but even more are needed! We need to get every Floridian on board as if you have not been hit by the rising cost of homeowners insurance premiums I guarantee you will be. Each day HAC gets new members that have just received their renal or cancellation notices. Saturday’s Rally had a flurry of new members that are now in the same situation as our existing members are. Again, together we can make a difference! Now, moving forward…this week will be especially busy for HAC and our members as there are two very important meetings this week. First there is Governor Bush’s Insurance Reform Committee meeting this Thursday October 12th from 9:00am to 4:00pm. This committee is responsible to bring suggestions to “fix” Citizens Insurance. The committee is made up of “Big Money” CEO’s and don’t have the best interests of the “people” so it is our job to inform them! Here is just one of the things that they are considering presenting as a possible “fix” All policyholders of Citizens Insurance will be required to have an inspection of their home and forced to make expensive updates such as storm shutters, hurricane proof windows, new roofs, etc. You will be given three years to pay for those updates and if not completed you will be dropped from Citizens Insurance and left to go into foreclosure for lack of insurance to your property. If this is not your answer to a “fix” for Citizens Insurance you better get to this meeting and tell them that! It is everyone’s responsibility and right to have your voices heard! The next meeting is the evening of October 12th at 8:00pm. It is a Town Hall Meeting presented by the t. Petersburg Times ad cable news channel Bay News 9, the meeting is to offer solutions to the insurance crisis. You can also submit questions for the board at tampabay.com or contact HAC president Ginny Stevans who will be on that panel that includes Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty, and Citizens Property Insurance board chairman Bruce Douglas, along with Sam Miller, vice president of the Florida Insurance Council, and Bill Newton, executive director of the Florida Consumer Action Network, the states largest consumer advocacy group.
